I think Ben answered all of the questions well and to his ability. He’s obviously not old enough to be a lawyer,
but most of the questions were answered well nonetheless.
The good things about his answers included the obvious fact that he was honest. He came out and said that he had absolutely
no experience writing/reviewing contracts, because he obviously has not attended a university/college or taken law courses,
and has not be entrusted with contracts. He also mentioned that he has not worked with a book publishing company before, which
is expected of you if you haven’t, but it’s still being honest.
Certain questions about his personality and traits were also answered well I think. He gave good answers on questions such
as, “How do you handle stressful situations?”. If I was a real employer, the answers he gave on these types of
questions are answers I would most likely be looking for when/if I interviewed an applicant in real life. I also liked how
he said he enjoy his job so much, he doesn’t care about the money. This is something I’d also like to hear as
an employer, because it shows me that he has a good personality, and that he’d be someone people would enjoy working
with because he enjoys what he does.
The last good thing that stood out in Ben’s answers, was that he came out and told me that he’d earn a performance
bonus in the next year if he was given the job. This shows me that he’s ready too work hard for me, and that if he doesn’t
earn that bonus, I can come to him and ask him why he didn’t earn that bonus when he said he would. This would leave
the door open for me to let him go if he isn’t performing well and that he’s just been telling me what I want
to hear.
The things I didn’t like as much in Ben’s answers were that he really didn’t tell me that he deserved
the job when I asked him why he does deserve it over someone else. He said he couldn’t answer because he didn’t
know any other applicants. I think he should have answered differently by telling me is good qualities, and what he could
bring to the job for me that maybe someone else couldn’t. This would show me that he really thinks he
deserves this job, and that he has a lot of qualities that make him a very likeable person who someone would enjoy working
with.
The last thing about his answers I didn’t enjoy was that at times, he was honest, yet he said something’s that
he maybe shouldn’t have. When asked why he was qualified, he was honest in his answer, however to be qualified as a
lawyer, you need diplomas/post-secondary education, not just the interest in the career.
